Your liver is the second largest and most important detoxifying organ in our body. It deals with all the toxins from the outside world and the one that requires regular maintenance.
When your liver gets congested, you are not in immediate danger, but it will produce symptoms that can lower the quality of your life significantly and also indicate that you are heading down the road of facing more serious problems if you do not snip it in the bud.
A weak liver pulls energy away from your gallbladder, pancreas and stomach – the key organs for digestion. The intestines are completely dependent upon the liver and the bile it produces.

If you are dealing with a couple of these symptoms above - it means it is time to take care of your liver.
How does the liver get damaged?
The liver stores the remains of all your medications, vaccines, chemicals, preservatives and hormones from foods and everything you have taken through your life. It gets affected by the skin care products and make up you use. Flour products, milk, poor quality vitamins all weaken this organ. So does lack of sleep, stress and improper food combining. Do you want to hear something alarming? Hormones in birth control pills will leave a dark patch on the liver that will show up in x-rays.
How do you heal and support your liver??
Incorporate the following:
- Green leafy veggies are powerful blood purifiers.
- Bitters. Bitter herbs cause a reflexive secretion of gastric juices and tone the muscles of the digestive tract. They also support detoxification.
- Liver tonics like milk thistle will support and tone your liver. (Make sure the colon is working and healthy before taking too many liver stimulating herbs.) Other helpful liver loving plant is dandelion.
- Citrus foods are cleansing and stimulating to the liver.
- Onions, garlic, and daikon radish are sulfur-rich, which help the liver eliminate toxins from the body.
- Other good detox foods are artichokes, asparagus, beets, celery, shitakee mushrooms, sprouts, strawberries (organic), avocado, seaweed and turmeric.
- Stick with cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil, eat non-glutenous whole grains (nothing with flour) and legumes.
- Drink lots of pure, room temperature water!
- Stop the liver damaging cycle of overeating.
- Fast on fresh juices or veggie/bone broth for a day—or even just a meal.
- Incorporate warm baths, Epsom salt baths, saunas, meditation, mild exercises, and massage into your cleansing routine is also very important.
- Make sure you get adequate sleep and create space for resting and de-stressing.
- Spend more time in nature and stay away from the media.
- Declutter your space and your mind.
- Minimize exposure to chemicals of all sorts.
What to avoid:
- Factory farmed animal products
- Dairy products
- Sugar
- Greasy food
- Wheat/gluten, anything made with flour
- Hydrogenated fats
- Low-quality oils commonly used in most restaurants (yes, you might need to make most of your meals at home)

- Caffeine
- Processed foods
- Chemicals in your cleaning supplies, skin care products, dry cleaning solvents, plastic containers etc.
- Eating late and eating too much
