Hello. I'm Csilla Bischoff. Csilla is pronounced as [chilla], just like in chinchilla.
My passion for healthy eating and living started about 17 years ago. My own journey of health and healing had led me to pursue health coach training and I have been practicing as a certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach for the past 10 years. I love what I do. This is my passion, my hobby and my vocation. I feel grateful to be able to support others on this journey.
How long have you been doing what you do and what made you choose to be a Integrative Nutrition Health Coach?
To answer this question it is best to share with you my journey and what brought me here to coach people like you on how to eat and live in a way that really works for you.
I am originally from Hungary and before coming to the United States I was teaching English as a second language there. I met my husband (who is American) while working as a nanny in Toronto back in 2001. Two years later we got married and I started my new life here.
For the longest time I had no idea that I struggled with sugar addiction. I still remember the day my husband came home, looked at me and with all seriousness in his voice he said to me: "Csilla, I never know what mood you are going to be in when I come home. I love you and I care about you. And I care about the kids. Do you even notice that there are days when you are happy, even tempered and you are a joy to be around. Other times you are this person whom I do not want to be around. Short-tempered, angry, moody and quite obnoxious?"
This is when I seriously started to pay attention to my moods. I thought it was my nature. One day happy, the next day sad, then depressed. Later I noticed I got heart palpitations and often was very close to having anxiety attacks. I was lethargic more often than not and got pimples on my chin regularly around my periods. Big ones that took over a week to heal. The mood swings were slowly getting out of handle. I was going downhill. My family was suffering. I was suffering. Then one day I made the decision to figure out what was really going on. That was the moment when it all started.
I realized that what I ate had a huge impact on how I felt on any given day.
My trigger was sugar, chocolate and rich desserts from my home country.
There was no moderation for me. Once I started, I could not stop at one cookie. I had to have the whole plate. I could not have just a piece of chocolate. I had to have the whole bar. I would buy Halloween or Easter Candy for the kids and I would eat them all way before the special day arrived. I often had to go out once or even twice to replenish the Easter chocolate or Halloween treats. I was spending thousands of dollars each year at the dentist. I was tired, cranky, felt unattractive, and unmotivated with no confidence whatsoever. This eventually affected my marriage. To feel better I just ate more chocolate. But obviously I was simply numbing things out and felt completely stuck in a vicious cycle.
Then I started to listen to Gary Null on the radio. Every day at noon. Religiously.
When he announced that he would come to NJ and offer a 6 month anti-aging group program, I knew I had to do it. For myself, for my family. My health journey started at that moment.
I actually became vegetarian as a result of that program. Started to eat more vegetables, added in new things and let go of any processed foods. It was a slow process and it was not the solution to my sugar cravings but it was a start.
The more whole foods I added into my diet, the better I was feeling. I was vegetarian for many years after that (7 to be exact). My interest in healthy eating grew each year and my friends started to call me "the health nut". I was the mom who brought healthy snacks to our mom's group meetings, who did not allow her kids to drink soda (at all), who refused to stock the cabinets with snacks .. etc. I knew I had found my passion and wanted to find qualifications beyond my life experience and self-education.
On a cold fall evening back in 2004 I went to a local cooking class where a radiant looking woman was sharing information about the health properties of food. She was glowing and happy. I knew I wanted to have what she had. Within a few days I enrolled as a student with the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City (I never heard of this school before and felt so grateful that it showed up in my life). This ended up being one of the best decisions of my life.
I studied for two years at IIN learning how to help people just like myself make the changes into healthy living without the traditional dieting, deprivation and confusing regimes. I got trained in eastern and western nutrition, modern health counseling and using food as therapy.
This education has changed my life. The Institute for Integrative Nutrition was so much more than a nutrition school. It was a self improvement course that brought out of me what I did not even know existed! I ended up not only with a new career but a new me had also emerged.
I’ve been supporting men and women as a certified Health Coach in diet and lifestyle ever since.
Now I get to work with clients who suffer from many of the same health conditions I once did, and it is such an honor, and so rewarding, to have the opportunity to help them heal themselves!
Fast forward 10+ years. I am no longer a vegetarian. My kids are in their teen years and I have been inspiring and educating people to live healthier lives since March 2005. This is my passion and I love what I do.
What is Integrative Nutrition Health Coaching?
Health Coaching is a unique, exciting innovation in health and nutrition. As a Health Counselor, I have studied all the major dietary theories and will help you discover what approach works best for you at this point in your life.
No one diet works for everyone. I will guide you to find the food and lifestyle choices that best support you. I will also help you to make gradual, lifelong changes that enable you to reach your current and future health goals. So, when the experts say, "dairy is good for you" or "fat is unhealthy," it's too much of a generalization. One person's food is another person's poison, and that's why fad diets don't work in the long run. I look at your age, health, activity level, blood type, metabolic rate and personal preferences to determine your dietary needs.
My approach is not based on willpower or deprivation. I know that this approach does not work for me for the long-term. If it doesn’t work for me, it probably won’t work for you.
My clients are able to make lasting lifestyle changes because we break things into small, manageable steps. Each of these steps relate to the bigger picture of what we’re trying to achieve. If you get stuck or don’t follow-through on a recommendation, I will gently support you (not put you down!). We will problem-solve and work through your challenges and barriers together.
A holistic approach to nutrition means that I look at how all areas of your life are connected. Does stress at your job or in your relationship cause you to overeat? Does lack of sleep or low energy prevent you from exercising? As we work together, we look at how all parts of your life affect the whole.
Healthy relationships, a fulfilling career, regular physical activity and a spiritual practice are essential forms of nourishment. When these "primary foods" are balanced, what you eat becomes secondary.
Holistic means to involve all of something. I look at the whole person.
How is a Holistic Health Counselor different from a licensed dietician or nutritionist?
Dietitians usually are trained to assess the nutritional needs of individuals, establish goals and objectives that meet nutritional needs, and provide nutritional counseling in health and disease.
While most dietitians dwell on calories, carbs, fats, proteins, restrictions and lists of good and bad foods, I work with my clients to create a happy, healthy life in a way that is flexible, fun and free of denial and discipline. We don’t focus on counting calories and fat grams. Instead I encourage my clients to understand how to assess the quality of a food, and how learn how it works in their particular body. The tools that I teach are used over a lifetime.

Who are your clients exactly?
I love to work with people who are just like I was. They struggle with sugar cravings, mood swings, weight gain, energy loss, anxiety. They worried about poor health in the future. They want to fit into their jeans without dieting and deprivation, to have control over their cravings, to learn to cook quick and healthy meals, to have glowing, youthful skin, less anxiety, rid themselves of depression, have more peace around food and their body, better digestion, less gas and bloating. Basically, they want their body to work for them. They are often overwhelmed and tried LOTS of things that have not really worked.
Who do you best work with and what is expected of me as a client working with you?
I work great with self-starters and people who are motivated. People who need to feel great with consistent energy levels but understand that there is work to be done every month, week and day to make this a reality. I work best with clients who are willing to be a little patient and trust me in the process. My approach is not about a quick fix. In my experience some changes are quick, but others may take time. The important thing is that you are committed to putting i some time yourself.
What type of people will NOT benefit from your program?
My programs are not for people who want to count calories, measure out portions, looking for subscribed diet plans, with details on calorie counts, specific numbers for protein, carbs, and fat intake. I do not work with people who are content to stay on prescription meds for the rest of their lives, and look to others to ‘fix’ them. I don’t work well with people who think that healing comes from outside of themselves. I do not work with people who are looking for quick fixes or a magic pill. Or those who have multiple excuses for why trying something new will not work for them.
I choose to work with people who are willing to invest in themselves and their growth, prioritize their healing and see nutrition and healthy living choices as powerful forces that are intrinsically connected to their daily state of mind.
I choose tp work with people who are ready to invest in themselves financially and are willing to do the work, make the necessary changes, and understand that healing takes time and involves other levels such as emotional, spiritual, mental and physical.

How fast will I see results?
Since everyone is different, it is hard to say. But you get out of it what you put into it. Most of my clients see changes within the first two sessions. If you want to see results that are lasting, you’ll welcome the big transformations that happen a few months into the program.
How will we work together and what do the programs entail?
You will receive support from me during one-on-one coaching sessions either in-person or by phone. During the sessions we will talk about your current concerns and goals. We start with whatever is most important to you at the time. I will provide support, guidance, and lifestyle recommendations to help you reach your goals. We will also check-in to see how the recommendations went from the last session.
Following each session, you will receive notes from each session, healthy, delicious recipes that you can make with limited time, as well as various handouts and educational materials that will supplement what we discuss during the sessions. Some programs include healthy shopping tours, unlimited email support, weekly check-in calls.
How long are your programs?
They are 3 or 6 months long. I have tested various lengths and have found that (both personally and with my clients) that it takes this amount of time to make lasting lifestyle changes. I don’t want my clients investing their time and money in a program that won’t yield lasting changes. My clients are usually amazed by the number of changes they have made, and the impact the program has had, at the end of the program. Having a program of these lengths allows us to insure that changes you make in month 1 or 2 are still being implemented in month 3, 6 and beyond. We also have the time to experiment and determine what works best for you.
Do people continue past the 6 months?
Yes, many love the ongoing support. Most people find that they have achieved their original goals by the end of their program, but often clients want to go to the next level. I am always glad to continue working with clients
Can I contact some of your former clients to see what it’s like to work with you?
Yes. I encourage you to take a look at the results others have achieved. I realize that you have many options, and I realize that it is hard to sort through what is genuine, and the systems that just claim to be real. Do you accept credit cards?
Yes, as a matter of fact, I only accept credit cards. You can either pay on a monthly basis or pay for the whole program at once. It’s totally up to you. Clients who choose to pay in full enjoy a bookkeeping discount and this is the only exception where I will accept a check.
Where are you located?
I am located in Central New Jersey. I work mostly by phone and the internet, I see clients all over the world. I have found phone coaching to be highly effective even with clients I have never met face to face. A few clients still come to see me in my home office.

We’ll set up a day and time to start our coaching and you’ll receive a welcome packet over email. In it, you’ll fill out your client information and goals. You’ll send this to me at least 2 days prior to your first session.
Can I sample your work first to see if it’s the right solution for me?
YES!. Schedule a Strategy Session with me. You have a choice of a 60 or 90 minute long session ($150, $175).
Your investment for this in-depth consultation will go toward your program fee if you choose to move forward and work with me one-on-one. During this session, we will uncover the roadblocks that are in the way of your reaching your health goals. I will give you some action steps to follow through with after the session. By the end of our time together you will feel empowered and have an idea of what direction to go into.

I have a family and a very busy life. How much time do I need to invest? I don’t have much time to spare.
If you can spend at least one hour of time per week towards this, you will make improvements. Sure, you won’t achieve results as quickly as if you jumped wholeheartedly in, but you have to start somewhere.
If you can even spare one hour a week, you will be able to take steps toward your goals, or learn one new idea a week. Know that this approach will take longer than if you throw yourself into it wholeheartedly; however, if you don't ever start, you will never get there. They say every journey starts with a single step and I know, personally, that I'd rather fail miserably at something I tried, than never have given myself the chance to succeed.
The question really is: how much do you want it? If you really want it, you will find time for it.
